MUMBAI DURING GANESH CHATURTHI FESTIVAL

Lord Ganesha is the most loved and prayed god among all the gods in Hindu Mythology. Lord Ganesha is revered as the remover of obstacles, patron of arts and sciences and deva of intellect and wisdom. Every year the entire nation celebrates a huge 10-day festival with complete enthusiasm and love where the first day starts with Ganpati Sthapana (Lord Ganesh Welcome) and the last day is marked with Ganpati Visharjan (Lord Ganesha Farewell).

Mumbai is one of those towns in India where you can see every individual immersed in the feel of celebration and happiness for a complete 10 days. It is also said that if you are planning to visit Mumbai, then visiting the town in the month of Ganpati festival will be the most thrilling experience.

Out of these 10 days, the last day is the most dramatic time where you can find the whole city celebrating the farewell of Lord Ganesha with huge “band baaja barat” feeling. Every street in the town is packed with thousands and thousands of people in huge groups, dancing to the rhythm of music and coloring each other face with gulaal. You can see larger than life idols of Lord Ganesha on decorated flower chariot moving slowly towards the visharjan ghat.

You can hear people in huge masses cheering “Ganpati Bappa Morya” on their highest pitch. It’s altogether a pure feeling when you witness such a thrill in every individual on the streets, and you will find yourself completely driven towards that feeling.

The major visharjan is held at Girgaum beach in south Mumbai. You can witness many beautiful and enormous idols of Lord Ganesha in Girgaun beach, where the idol is brought to be immersed in the ocean, which marks the farewell of Lord Ganesha.

This year’s Ganesh Visharjan was even better than the last few years and in coming years it will be even better.
